Botox is an injectable and is used especially to soften frowning wrinkles and crow’s feet, that are caused because of the contracting of underlying muscles.
Botox can also correct a sagging eyebrow by lifting it, tighten the jawline and fix sagging corners of your mouth. Botox is also used for the treatment of migraines and can help reduce excessive sweating.
What is Botox
Botox is a registered trademark for botulin toxin typa A: a pure derivative from a protein. Botox is a registered medicine by Allergan. Botox has been used for at least thirty years in medicine for, for example, treatment of spasticity. For cosmetic applications the trademark Botox Cosmetics is used as well.
How does Botox work
Botox is injected in very small doses into the muscle fibers that are responsible for the dynamic wrinkles that appear by active mimicry. Botox temporarily disables the stimulation from the nerve to the muscle that causes the wrinkles. This causes the muscles to relax and reduce the wrinkles or even disappear entirely.
Botox softens frowning wrinkles and crow’s feet
Botox is especially suitable for men and women with a very active mimicry. Lots of frowning and laughing cause frowning wrinkles and crow’s feet. Botox relaxes the overactive muscles and gives the skin some rest which softens the wrinkles.
Botox corrects sagging eyebrows
A sagging eyebrow causes pressure on the eyelids and sometimes causes headaches. By relaxing the right muscles, other muscles are activated and the eyebrows, and thus the eyelids, are lifted. You’ll have a fresh glace again.
Botox restores sagging corners of your mouth and a weakened jawline
Overactive muscles that pull the corners of the mouth down and weaken the jawline give an unsatisfied and tired expression. Botox relaxes these muscles and activates the muscles causing the corners of the mouth to look naturally relaxed and tightens the jawline. It’s possible to continue treatment with fillers when there’s also a loss of volume present.
Botox helps against excessive sweating
Botox blocks the nerves that cause the sweat glands to produce sweat. This causes the excessive sweating to stop, also called hyperhidrosis.
Migraine treatment with Botox
Botox effective treats headaches caused by muscle contractions. The FDA has approved Botox as a treatment to prevent chronic migraine attacks.
An exact amount of Botox in the right place soften the wrinkles or will even have them disappear completely. By relaxing the muscles that caused the wrinkles, the skin recovers and can soften a wrinkle or remove it entirely. You will look relaxed, fresh and well rested.
How long does the result remain visible
The effect of Botox is temporary and the result will be visible for around three to six months. Stronger muscles will become active again quicker. Deep wrinkles and strong muscles are, at the start, treated every 3-4 months. When a Botox treatment is repeated several times the result will remain visible for a longer period of time.
How does the treatment work
Botox is injected as a low dose with a thin needle, directly into the muscle fibers. This reduces the muscle activity. Most people do not experience the treatment as painful. The injection feels like a pin prick and an anesthetic is not necessary. The treatment itself takes around 10 minutes.
After the treatment
It’s possible that there’s some light redness on the skin, or a little swelling. This goes away by itself very quickly, often within 10 minutes. You can resume your daily activities immediately after the treatment. Within several days the results will be visible, and after two weeks they’re optimal. The skin will look smooth and relaxed, wrinkles are less deep or even completely gone. You’ll look fresh and well rested.
I won’t get an unnatural expressions
With Botox it’s especially important to find the right balance between a fresh expression and your natural mimicry. An expert physician knows exactly which muscles have to be relaxed to create that and will use the right dose. Your face will not change, you’ll only look fresher, well rested and relaxed. If it’s your first Botox treatment I’ll use a small amount of Botox to see how your muscles react. When the Botox works after a few days we’ll see together if you’re happy with the result, or whether or not you need additional Botox. This touch up is included in the treatment.
Botox or fillers for wrinkles
Botox is suitable for dynamic wrinkles caused by the frequent contracting of muscles. For static wrinkles which are caused by loss of volume, skin aging or sun damage, a treatment with fillers or a skin laser may be a better option.
Is a Botox treatment safe
A Botox treatment is a medical procedure. When done by an expert physician, Botox is safe in both medical and aesthetical applications. Always chose an expert physician with lots of experience in the procedure for a beautiful result and to reduce the chance of complications. Always ask if they’re working with Botox or an equal product with FDA approval.
The price of the treatment is dependent on the number of zones that are treated and the required amount of Botox. A zone is, for example, the vertical frowning wrinkles between your eyebrows. A treatment of multiple deeper wrinkles is different from treatment of a single small frowning wrinkle.
